Introduction
–2-3 minutes
· Plans & elevations are 2-d
drawings of 3-d shapes.
· 3-d shapes can be viewed from
different points.
· A plan is a scale drawing when a 3-d
object is looked at from the top.
· Elevations is a scale drawing of a
3-d shape when looked at from the front or the side.
· Example – A rectangular box and some
other object would be shown from different perspectives.
Activity 1: (20 minutes)
· From a pile of building blocks,
students would be asked to choose a minimum of 7 blocks of different colors and
join them into a 3 d shape.
· Each student would be asked to view
the object from the top, front and side.
· Each student would be asked to draw the
various views on the grid or the graph paper. They can also make it on a plane
paper using 1cm squares.

Summary:
5 minutes
· Plan view is also called the Bird’s
eye view is how an object would appear from directly above
· Elevations are basically side views
of the object. They can be front , side or rear view elevations
· Scale – it is important to pre decide
the relation between the size of the object and the drawing
Extension
activities –
Students would be given practice worksheets on more complex 3-d shapes
Assessment
– This lesson is not
meant for assessment purpose for marks but an informal assessment of the
students understanding would be recorded based on his/her involvement in class.
